Meet Greyson: Florida's First Partial Heart Transplant Patient

agosto 25, 2026 – The cardiovascular surgery team at the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Heart Institute successfully performed the first partial heart transplant in the state of Florida in March of 2026 on Greyson, an 11-year-old patient born with a Ventricular Septal Defect, a congenital heart disorder. In this major surgical innovation, the living valve of a donor's heart is implanted into a patient, which allows the living valve to grow with the child.

New Florida Heart Law Highlights the Importance of EKG Screenings for Student-Athletes

julio 09, 2026 – Starting with the 2026-2027 school year, Florida’s Second Chance Act will require many high school student-athletes to complete a one-time electrocardiogram, or EKG, before participating in sports governed by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). The new requirement is intended to help detect hidden heart conditions that may increase a young athlete’s risk for sudden cardiac arrest.
